Bill of Rights Day Bell Ringing
The 227th Bill of Rights Day will be celebrated in a unique way in Hillsborough, North Carolina to mark the date in 1791 when the first ten amendments to the U. S. Constitution, the ones we call “The Bill of Rights,” went into force protecting American’s essential freedoms. There won’t be any speeches but at the stroke of noon, bells will start sounding simultaneously throughout Hillsborough’s historic district for 227 seconds from church belfries, historic sites, and in the historic merchant district.
