The Carolina Hurricanes have moved back into playoff position in the Eastern Conference and didn’t play a game.

The Canes moved up into the second wild-card playoff spot Monday afternoon when the New York Islanders lost to the Minnesota Wild 5-3 in Brooklyn.

The Canes and Islanders each had played 60 games and had 64 points after Carolina’s 3-2 overtime loss Sunday to the New Jersey Devils, but the Isles held the wild-card spot with more regulation and overtime wins.

After the Isles’ loss Monday, the Canes had the tiebreaker edge with fewer games played and a higher point percentage.
