Durham, Chapel Hill make friendly wager on Duke-UNC basketball game

February 08, 2018 02:54 PM

Even the visitor’s bureaus of Durham and Chapel Hill are highly interested in Thursday’s Duke-North Carolina basketball game at the Smith Center.

The Durham visitor’s center made a wager via Twitter to the Chapel Hill visitor’s center on Thursday.

Hey, @visitchapelhill. We heard there was an important basketball game happening tonight. How about whoever loses writes a nice poem about the other city? You in? #DukeVsUNC

“Hey, @visitchapelhill. We heard there was an important basketball game happening tonight. How about whoever loses writes a nice poem about the other city? You in? #DukeVsUNC,” Durham, NC (@DurhamNC) tweeted.

.@DurhamNC We’re in. Hope you guys can think of enough words that rhyme with Chapel Hill. #UNCvsDuke pic.twitter.com/bwCxRVqcAM

Visit Chapel Hill (@visitchapelhill) responded: “.@DurhamNC We’re in. Hope you guys can think of enough words that rhyme with Chapel Hill. #UNCvsDuke”

That set off a flurry of trash-talking tweets with Chapel Hill touting the Tar Heels’ six NCAA tournament crowns and Durham highlighting coach Mike Krzyzewski’s 1,000-plus wins. UNC coach Roy Williams’ dance skills were also flaunted. Then the two schools faced off by posting dunking videos of past greats UNC’s Michael Jordan and Duke’s Jay Bilas.

So which town will have to enlist its poet laureate?
