This video gives a glimpse of the Triangle’s pitch to Amazon

Boosters promoting the Triangle for Amazon’s second headquarters have been short on details of what their bid entails, but a promotional video sent to the company gives a glimpse of their strategy.

It’s a two-minute montage of familiar landmarks and venues such as Duke University, area farmers markets and museums, with a few unannounced forays far outside the region stretching from Chimney Rock in the west to beaches and wild ponies in the east.

It’s a bit more subdued than the video submitted by Charlotte, possibly the Triangle’s biggest North Carolina competitor for the headquarters. That video, about twice as long, features a local artist, a spoken-word artist and a basketball arena co-host narrating the city’s attractions. (It includes mountain and coastal footage but at least notes it takes a while to drive to those locations.)

The Triangle’s video is just a small part of the proposal submitted to Amazon on Oct. 17 – two days before the deadline for submissions – by the Research Triangle Regional Partnership.

The partnership, an association of economic developers responsible for putting together the Triangle’s bid, submitted seven local sites for Amazon to consider. The group also established a website to promote the region and encouraged residents to tweet the area’s many attractions with a #TriangleDelivers.

Ryan Combs, executive director of the partnership, on Monday said the website was established to promote the region and engage people who live here by keeping them informed and soliciting their feedback.

Earlier this year Seattle-based Amazon announced it will spend $5 billion on construction and over time hire up to 50,000 people at a second headquarters, and invited regions in the United States and Canada to collaborate to produce proposals.

Charlotte, the Triad and Hickory submitted their own proposals. In all more than 200 proposals were submitted to the online retailer.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Amazon will narrow the field to finalists by Dec. 1.

Not all competitors are playing it close to the vest. Boston and Chicago have released their proposals to the public describing potential sites for the headquarters. According to news media reports Chicago has said it will pay at least $2 billion in tax break incentives, New Jersey said it would offer $7 billion, and Worcester, a city near Boston, has said it will pay $500 million.
